Is Resting Bitch Face Recognized by Science?

Some time after 2010 maybe, a comedy channel invaded millennials through genz social media feeds. Although there is no definitive origin, it is believed that around that time the term resting bitch face (or bitchy resting face) was coined.

Since then, women with anything less than a shiny smile plastered to their face at all times were labeled as "bitchy" or given made upmedical conditions such as having "rbf".

You might hear someone say "she's actually nice, but she has pretty bad rbf."

But, is there any claim to it?

The answer is... yes! Kinda.

Everyone's face has a resting look, from a combination of factors such as genetics, mood, and sometimes learned behaviors. Yes, you can subconsiously learn to hold your face a certain way.

For example, some genetic features may be that the corners of the mouth are slightly turned down. That would give the appearance of anger. Consequently, people treat you differently depending on how they perceive you. This has caused many women to seek plastic surgery solutions, including mouth corners being lifted and botox to lessen the appearance of frown lines in the face. But are men doing this equally as often?

It seems that more women than men have need for such services. Perhaps because there is no resting asshole face. Men are allowed to look angry and it makes him powerful, stoic, or poised. A woman is a bitch.

To me, this says less about science and more about perception. Perhaps the solution does not lie in changing a woman's natural facial features but more in being more emotionally intelligent.
